I’ve found that when life tends to get real bad, real tough, it’s best to reach into your cookie jar.
What that means is, ask yourself this; if you’re struggling say with an exam, say with complications in your life, say with a complex bout with your existential angst. Just ask yourself this, have I ever made it through something worse, something that hurt more.
If you have, that’s your cookie jar, it’s a concept by David Goggins. I like it because I tend to believe that last year’s summer. Well 2018 leading into and June of 2019 was the toughest time of my life. My struggles with my family, my relationships, my friends and especially my addiction was at an all time high, or low.
I’m sure it’s possible that you’ve never been through something as bad as what you’re currently going through. Trust me, when I say this. It is hard, it does kill you, waking up is a task, but one you don’t always want. It does suck.
But keep your head down, get through it. One day at a time, until you get to the point where this situation goes into the cookie jar. That’s where the real power lies. In understanding that whatever you’re going through regardless of however painful, is temporary. Everything is.
With that realisation comes the power to accept that it’ll end and when it does you may not feel like you’re okay, but you’ve gone through such a horrid bit, that the next few things might not be as bad. They just might be easier to deal with, since you’re cookie jar has so much in it.
